Qaddafi: Arming Civil To Fight West Country - Libya 2011

Libyan leader, Moammar Qaddafi, on Saturday, said he would arm civilians to defend Libya from what he called aggression "colonial, cross" by Western forces launched an air strike against him.

"Now it takes is to open the warehouse and all weapons of various types to maintain the independence, unity, and honor Libya," said Qaddafi-hour speech broadcast on state television after the attack began.

"We call on the community and citizens of Arab and Islamic countries, Latin America, Asia, and Africa to stand with the people of Libya who valiantly to deal with this aggression, which will only increase the strength of the Libyan people, their firmness and unity , "he said. Qaddafi also said, the Mediterranean and North Africa is now a battlefield, and that the interests of the countries in the region would be in danger from now.

United States Forces (U.S.) and Britain on Saturday fired at least 110 Tomahawk cruise missiles to Libya. This missile by the U.S. military air defense directed against Moammar Qaddafi. A top official confirmed the missile strike after President Barack Obama ordered "limited military action" to help the UN resolution that supports an armed intervention against the Qaddafi regime.

Admiral William Gortney told reporters that "early this afternoon over 110 Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired from ships and submarines the U.S. and Britain. The missiles hit more than 20 integrated air defense systems and other defense facilities ashore.

The first missile struck at 19.00 GMT (0200 GMT) following the air raid carried out earlier by French warplanes. Thus exposed Gortney, director of U.S. Joint Staff. Gortney also said, "That's the first stage of the operation of many steps" to implement UN resolutions and prevent the Libyan regime to use force against its own people.

Gortney said one British submarine joined the ship and other U.S. submarines in the missile attack. He also said, the U.S. and its allies have not applied the no-fly zone by aircraft patrolling the sky. However, "We will establish the conditions to be able to achieve that state," said Gortney.
