Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Closed Soon - Japan 2011

Plant Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, damaged by massive earthquake and tsunami of last week, most likely will be closed, said government spokesman on Sunday (20/03/2011). "Looking at the situation objectively, it is almost certain," said Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told a news conference in response to the question whether the government plans to disband the nuclear installations. A number of explosions occurred at the Fukushima nuclear power plant after a magnitude 9 earthquake and tsunamis that killed thousands of people on 11 March. Various efforts are underway to cool the nuclear core in the reactor that is too hot, so as not to become a serious nuclear disaster. The Japanese government has evacuated all residents within a radius of 20 kilometers from the Fukushima nuclear power plant and the workers in it and announced the installation of no-fly zone in the region in order to avoid the spread of radiation. Fear of large-scale nuclear catastrophe remains high in Japan as the country continues to try hard to hold crisis.
