Distinguishing Mental Disorder Or Possessed By Demons

This time I wanted to share about how to distinguish between mental illness and demon. At the end I gave the data link hospitals in Indonesia from Wikipedia. Most of these hospitals have a psychiatric clinic, some have not.

According to WHO data the Indonesian population who suffer from mental disorders around 26 million inhabitants. Of which 13.2 million people suffering from depression. On the occasion seminars in several cities I get a lot of questions, how to distinguish mental disorders (particularly depression and schizophrenia) with a demon. Because many symptoms are similar. While the confusion, many services use a shaman or wise man who could be cast out demons. Many mental problems are considered as a curse that needs to cast out demons. If the diagnosis is wrong then the treatment or therapy is also problematic.

Distinguishing mental disorders, especially schizophrenia with a demon, for the layman is not easy. In my book "Distinguishing Mental Disorder and have a demon" published by Scholastic Press (2009) I explained that there were some differences and similarities possessed by demons and mental disorder schizophrenia.

A. Differences

Demon has the following characteristics, which distinguishes it from schizophrenia disorder

1. There is evidence of new knowledge and intellect not previously owned by the victim. The patient can speak in a foreign language he never learned before.

2. He does not know his identity correctly, there was a "new personality". The sufferer is sometimes introduced himself as the devil - mention of himself as the devil is usually as the first. Victim speaks in the third person. He liked to call himself as a devil or a group of great spirit. In people with schizophrenia, awareness of reality usually disrupted. He could not recognize him, did not even realize that he was sick. He also usually does not reach to call himself as a devil.

3. He has a strong desire to condemn / blaspheme God. Also hate the activity of prayer or worship.

4. He has great strength so it can break the chains that bind. Though he is very less to eat and have poor health.

5. People are usually cured / normal after the demon was expelled from within him. Changes and sudden recovery. It is not possible in schizophrenia are needed in the treatment process.

6. At the time the healing process occurs transfer of occult (spirit) of the patient's body to the (creature) other.

B. Symptoms of a demon that is similar to schizophrenia are:

1. There is a strong desire to commit suicide. Generally they have very low self-concept (self-feeling useless). They have a big problem in personality and behavior. They generally have a severe mental torture because of the severe problems of life. To relieve or forget the heavy burden that he does not care or sometimes tortured her own body.

2. The existence of delusions (delusions), hallucinations, speech terdisorganisasi (often distorted), bizarre behavior, negative symptoms (affective plain, there is no will) and the occurrence of social dysfunction / jobs.

3. Patients with suspicious, tend to depression, anxiety, tension, irritability, and feelings easily changed. Some have eating disorders and difficulty sleeping.

4. There was a time people lose energy and motivation, is more difficult to remember and concentrate. Patients usually feel that everything around him changed, so that he feels alien in their own environment.

5. Generally they can not directly function well in social life, for having hallucinations, ie the patient to hear, see, smell, or feel something that was not there. Also experience delusions (delusions), ie, patients believe something unusual and strange.

6. He became passive and no attention to the family or the environment, people living in his own world. Do not want to take care of yourself (not eating, not taking a shower). He also lost feeling or emotion to be flat. (*)
