Arab League Slams Western Invasion To Libya

The Arab League condemned the military invasion of the West against Libya, a week after they urged the United Nations imposed no-fly zone in the North African country rich in oil.

As is known, on Saturday, a number of United States warships and a British submarine fired more than 120 Tomahawk cruise missiles to Libya. French warplanes also launched air strikes.

It's like repeating the beginning of Western colonization of the United States-led Iraq in 2003. On Thursday, the UN Security Council passed Resolution 1973 which allows military action to prevent Kadhafy forces attacking civilians.

"What happened in Libya is different from the purpose of applying fly zones and that we want is the protection of civilians and bombing of civilians rather than another," said Arab League Secretary General Amr Mussa, told reporters on Sunday (03/20/2011).

"From the beginning, we only ask for a no-fly zone imposed to protect civilians and avoid the development of Libyan other or additional steps," said Mussa.

On 12 March, Arab League urged the UN no-fly zones imposed on Libya and said the regime of Moammar Qaddafi has "lost legitimacy" when they tried to quell the rebellion which tried to overthrow him from power.

Mussa said, preparations are underway to convene an emergency session of Arab League consists of 22 countries, with the main discussion about Libya. "We're currently in talks to prepare for the meeting," said the leader of the Arab League.

For a while almost all parts of the north African country was out of control Qaddafi after a popular uprising erupted in the port city of Benghazi in mid-February. However, now the troops Moammar Qaddafi is said to have successfully mastered more of these areas.

Hundreds of people were killed in a brutal crackdown government troops and thousands of foreigners hurried out of Libya in the first week of the rebellion.
